TORONTO, Dec. 21, 2012 /CNW/ - Today, Chris Bentley, Minister of Energy
issued a Direction to the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) extending the
Conservation and Demand Management (CDM) programs to the end of 2015.
Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited ("Toronto Hydro") strongly
supports the Minister's direction to the OPA.
This new direction will enable Toronto Hydro to extend its CDM programs
for the benefit of residential, business and industrial customers
located in Toronto. In 2011, Toronto Hydro invested approximately
$14.1 million in conservation and demand management programs achieving
approximately 172,920 Megawatt hours (MWh) in energy savings and an
estimated total electricity demand reduction of 49.8 Megawatts (MW)*.
This was achieved through the implementation of a broad portfolio of
conservation and demand management programs for both residential and
business customers. The Minister's decision will benefit Toronto
Hydro's customers, the environment and the economy as more programs are
introduced to market over the coming months.
