The Wexford Respects Ministry Inspectors' Report
Implementation is Underway
TORONTO, May 29, 2013 /CNW/ - The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has released their findings on a critical incident that occurred at The Wexford on March 13th, 2013 resulting in the death of a resident and the injury of another. The report identifies two orders for The Wexford to comply with in order to provide the safest possible home for their residents. The Wexford considers the Ministry a valuable partner in the delivery of exceptional quality care and welcomes their input on how to ensure the highest standards of care are being met.
"Our condolences go out to the families affected by this tragedy," said Sandy Bassett, Executive Director of The Wexford. "It is with them in mind that we accept the findings of this report and are committed to our continued efforts to provide the best possible care to all of our residents."
The Wexford's team of highly qualified staff are taking this report very seriously and have already begun the process of implementing the items identified in the report. Specifically efforts are underway to update the emergency plan for violent outbursts and strategies to deal with residents demonstrating behaviors of aggression, and to re-train staff in both of these areas. The Wexford will be working with the Ministry to address all concerns and continues to place the safety of their residents as their top priority.
"We are proud of our home and the care and support we provide to our residents and their families," said Cecil Persaud, Chair of the Board. "This has been a difficult time for all of us, but we are going to continue to do what we do best, caring diligently for the people that call The Wexford home."
