Toronto Hydro launches its first program targeted to businesses that promote and submit conservation applications

TORONTO, June 28, 2012 /CNW/ - Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited ("Toronto Hydro") is pleased to launch the Applicant Representatives Initiative (ARI).  This program encourages contractors, suppliers/distributors and energy consultants to complete and submit saveONenergy RETROFIT PROGRAM™ applications on behalf of their clients.  ARI is the first of its kind and is designed to increase business and industrial participation in conservation and demand management programs.

The program will pay qualified Applicant Representatives upon successful project completion.  Toronto Hydro is holding a series of mandatory training sessions to qualify applicant representatives as well as educate them on the conservation programs and application processes. Payments are based on the amount of verified kilowatts (kW) saved.

For a project with demand savings of 0 - 300 kW, the payment rate is $20 per kW, and projects with savings cumulatively over 300 kW, the rate is $40 per kW. For example, a project with demands savings of 250 kW would earn a $5,000 payment and a project with demand savings of 400 kW would earn a $10,000 payment.   This is in addition to the incentives received by the customer under the RETROFIT PROGRAM.

Businesses interested in becoming qualified Applicant Representatives can apply online at

"Our new initiative allows customers to apply with the expertise of qualified Applicant Representatives," says Richard Cook, Toronto Hydro CDM Technical Energy Consultant. "We hope this added benefit will increase the number of completed applications submitted for the RETROFIT PROGRAM - customers receive the program incentives and Applicant Representatives get paid for their expertise."

"Our main reason for becoming certified Applicant Representatives was to have a distinct value-added service," explains Tom Marsh, Branch Manager, Guillevin International Co. "Guillevin now offers customers a one-stop solution to take advantage of incentive programs."

The RETROFIT PROGRAM provides substantial financial incentives for replacing inefficient existing equipment with high efficiency equipment and for installing new control systems that will improve the efficiency of operational procedures and processes of businesses.

There are three ways to participate in this program:

  1. Prescriptive Measure - covers a wide range of lights and equipment on a pre-defined list.
  2. Engineered Measure - provides incentives by recognizing savings resulting from both equipment replacement and system design improvements.
  3. Custom Measure - is available for more complex or innovative solutions not covered in the Prescriptive or Engineered track.

What incentives are available?

•     $400/kW or $0.05/kWh for Lighting
•     $800/kW or $0.10/kWh for Non-lighting
