"Thank You Hazel" Official Retirement Gala
Announced for September 27, 2014
MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 3, 2014 /CNW/ - The Hazel McCallion Foundation for the Arts, Culture & Heritage announced today the official retirement gala celebrating North America's longest serving Mayor, Hazel McCallion, to be held on September 27, 2014 at the International Centre, Mississauga, Ontario. The evening promises to be the retirement party of a lifetime, and will be hosted by Mississauga's Francis D'Souza, CityTV News Anchor and 2-time Olympic Hockey Gold Medalist, Cheryl Pounder. All proceeds from the evening will support the ongoing activities of Mayor McCallion's Foundation which provides grants to arts, culture and heritage initiatives in her city.
"Mayor McCallion defines what public service is all about," notes Jim Murray, President of the Board of Directors of the Foundation. "There is huge interest in attending this event, we expect a who's who from the political, business, academic and community sectors, who want to celebrate the Mayor as she retires from the City after 36 years as its Mayor." With over 50 years of public service, McCallion's achievements are extraordinary. Under her leadership Mississauga has grown from a small community of 275,000 residents to become Canada's sixth largest city at 800,000 people. "Her accomplishments are unsurpassed" adds Gala Chair, Douglas Fowles. "We anticipate there will be a few good stories to share with gala guests. It's going to be quite an evening, and we have several surprises planned."
The evening will include live entertainment and tributes from across the globe, including Canadian celebrities and home grown Mississauga talent. For more information and to book tickets/tables go to www.thankshazel.ca
