Revitalization efforts succeed in attracting some of the city's biggest influencers to Ahuntsic-Cartierville
MONTRÉAL, Oct. 24, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - TEDxMontréal organizers, enthusiastic about the neighbourhood's growing revitalization efforts, have selected a warehouse location through DCMTL in Ahuntsic-Cartierville for their November 12 annual conference on Technology, Entertainment, and Design. The warehouse venue proposed by DCMTL will help create an unforgettable event, using the location as a springboard for launching Montreal's newest perspectives out to a global stage.
In order to put together the winning proposal, DCMTL coordinated with interior designers, event planners, the warehouse owners, and district officials to ensure that the proper permits could be issued, and that the warehouse could be transformed for the one-day event that will welcome over 600 attendees to hear some of the city's most influential thought leaders in technology, entertainment, and design.
DCMTL Development, for District Central Montreal is a $20 million project launched in June to revitalise some of the neighbourhood's key iconic industrial clothing and textile manufacturing buildings, and catalyze a larger movement in the Acadie-Marché Central neighbourhood. The conference's exact location will be revealed by TEDxMontréal early in the fall.
For the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Member of Parliament for Ahuntsic-Cartierville, "Conferences like TEDxMontréal are important as they represent opportunities for brainstorming, they foster innovation and create a space for cross-pollination. I am proud that this year's conference will be held in my riding of Ahuntsic-Cartierville and I encourage all participants to think big, creatively, and above all, local. I would like to thank the organizers and the volunteers who make this conference possible.''
For Annika Panzini, President of DCMTL, "From our very first meeting with the events team at TEDxMontréal, we all knew that we wanted to work together. For us, innovative conferences like TEDx talks are sources of inspiration and creativity; we couldn't be more excited about bringing their mission to our neighbourhood."
For Catherine Brosseau and Katy Yam, TEDxMontréal's Producers, "Our team is excited about the opportunity to build our event from the ground up in a location that has never been used for a conference before, in a neighbourhood that is launching its biggest revitalization effort in decades. Our vision is to uncover and promote innovative Montreal-born ideas, so it's ideal for us to work with a partner that is interested in new perspectives for our space and for the area in general."

WHAT IS TEDx?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDx[name], where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDx[name] event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
ABOUT TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or fewer) delivered by today's leading thinkers and doers. Many of these talks are given at TED's annual conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, and made available, free, on TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Monica Lewinsky, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
TED's open and free initiatives for spreading ideas include TED.com, where new TED Talk videos are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from thousands of volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; the annual million-dollar TED Prize, which funds exceptional individuals with a "wish," or idea, to create change in the world; TEDx, which provides licenses to thousands of individuals and groups who host local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, which selects innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
