Surrey Memorial Hospital Opens Canada's Second-Largest ER: Another Example of Successful Partnership

TORONTO, Oct. 9, 2013 /CNW/ - The Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships (CCPPP) congratulates the Government of British Columbia, Fraser Health and Partnerships BC on the successful opening of Canada's second-largest emergency department, Phase I of the Surrey Memorial Hospital Expansion and Redevelopment. The new ER offers shorter triage wait times, more timely assessment, treatment, care and discharge, more privacy and a completely separate, child-friendly pediatric ER.

Partnerships BC managed procurement for the 30-year agreement between public sector partners Ministry of Health and Fraser Health Authority and the private sector partners, Integrated Team Solutions (ITS), which is designing, building, financing and maintaining the new, 5,350-square-metre facility. It will also include neonatal intensive care, medical/surgical units, a clinical academic campus, a rooftop helipad, a laboratory and parking.

Surrey Memorial Hospital is one of 78 healthcare projects currently using the public-private partnership (P3) model to deliver on-time, on-budget public infrastructure to Canadians. As a P3, this project will also achieve an estimated value for taxpayers of $31 million.

About the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships: Established in 1993, CCPPP is a national not-for-profit non-partisan, member-based organization with broad representation from across the public and private sectors.
