OAKVILLE, ON, Sept. 18, 2014 /CNW/ - St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School (SMLS), an independent day school in Oakville for girls Preschool to Grade 12, is set up for success into 2020 and beyond with their comprehensive Strategic Plan! Through a collaborative process which included 400+ of the school's constituents, their leadership team and Board of Governors, the Strategic Plan builds on the strength and foundation of their previous plans, and sets them up for continued success.
The Plan includes the development of a new mission statement - to develop courageous girls who challenge and change the world - and long-term vision. Over the next five years, the school's strategic direction will focus on four priorities:
A. Leaders in Academic & Co-Curricular Programming for Girls
Generations of girls have come to SMLS because of its academic standards and warm caring community. A strong academic program must continue to be a cornerstone of the school, underpinned by in-depth expertise in how girls learn best, and the best teaching and learning supports. Their goal is that 100% of students will achieve acceptance at a post-secondary institution of their choice, and their preparation will equip them for success both in higher learning and life.
B. Experts in Real World Learning
SMLS programs enrich the standard curriculum with lessons or experiences that extend beyond the classroom locally and globally, with programs integrating academic studies with relevant career and life experiences from the real world. This allows students to graduate with enriched personal understanding, more curriculum credits and impressive academic achievements. By 2020, SMLS will have taken its deep knowledge of experiential learning to the next level and be recognized as leaders in real world learning for girls
C. An Engaged and Connected Community
SMLS will connect to and leverage the collective wisdom and resources of their community to offer exceptional learning to current students and future generations of Millies. And in 2015-2016 they will have a unique opportunity to engage, celebrate and connect their community through the celebration of their 125th anniversary.
D. Long Term Sustainability
St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School has benefitted from the forethought, leadership, and generosity of past leaders, and their future will depend on carrying forward this commitment. As a not-for-profit organization, SMLS is dependent on more than tuition to deliver excellence; they require the full support of all constituents in their community. Strong market recognition and support, financial stability, leading edge facilities and technology, and strong governance and leadership will position them to provide an exceptional education to current and future generations of Millies.
According to Dorothy Byers, Head of School, "A Strategic Plan serves as a guideline - a clear picture of where we want to go - and now we will collaborate as a community to work toward that. We have created a plan that builds on the good work we have achieved through the last plan. We have researched our changing environment locally and globally, assessed trends and innovation in education, and reflected on the essence of who we are and what we aspire to be. Our new mission statement 'to develop courageous girls who challenge and change the world' was embraced by focus groups that said 'That's who we want our daughter to be!' And our new tagline 'Inspired Girls. Empowered Women.' speaks to the exceptional education girls experience at SMLS."
As St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School prepares for their 125th Anniversary, they are confident that with their strategic plan in place, the future looks bright for SMLS!
