Sarnia Industrial Cooperation Making Significant Progress on Fuel Spill
SARNIA, ON, Sept. 12, 2013 /CNW/ - Sarnia's Unified Emergency Response Team is making significant progress recovering an estimated 200 barrels of ultra low sulphur diesel fuel which leaked from a pipeline on Tuesday.
The Unified Emergency Response Team is made up of emergency response personnel of the City and major industry. Members of the Team assigned experts to establish a remediation plan following a release from an eight inch diameter pipeline owned by Sun Canadian Pipeline Limited. Tests of the St. Clair River water continue to show that samples meet the applicable Ontario Drinking Water Quality Objectives.
"I want to extend my special thanks to members of the Unified Emergency Response Team for stepping up and helping Sarnia's citizens during this time of need," said Sun-Canadian executive Les Wojtanowski. "I also want to thank citizens who have had to cope with the inconvenience of closed roads as the clean-up progresses."
Sun-Canadian continues to work with all levels of government to remediate the leak, and determine its cause so a recurrence can be prevented. Activities include skimming and vacuuming of an area of the river enclosed by 1000 metres of booms where there is the highest concentration of leaked fuel.
