Robin Burns of McDonald's Oshawa to receive Fire Safety Award

TORONTO, June 4, 2013 /CNW/ - Robin Burns of McDonald's Oshawa will receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony on June 12, 2013 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.

Robin Burns is the community relations representative for McDonald's Family Restaurants of Oshawa and Clarington.  She understands the importance of education to influence positive fire safety behaviours. In addition to providing Oshawa Fire Services with educational materials, promotional incentives and equipment, she has used her marketing skills to promote its public education activities.  In particular, Burns has been of great assistance in supporting the fire department's Fire Chief for a Day contest. The theme of the contest is home fire escape planning, which is a critical skill applicable to children and adults alike. With Robin's valuable input and ideas, participation in the contest has increased dramatically.

Burns also ensures that important fire safety messages and fire department program promotions are included on the tray liners at all five McDonald's Oshawa restaurants. Through this initiative, Oshawa Fire Services has been able to connect with thousands of families across the city.

"Although McDonald's has always been a strong supporter of fire safety, Robin Burns has gone above and beyond the requirements of her job to promote numerous fire safety initiatives in the community," said Ted Wieclawek, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair, Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council.

The Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council gratefully acknowledges the support of its sponsors in this event: Technical Standards and Safety Authority, The Co-operators Group, Kidde Canada Inc., Home Depot of Canada Inc., Proctor & Gamble Inc., Electrical Safety Authority, CSA Group, Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc., Roxul Inc. and Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada.
