Roberts Elected Chair of Motor Dealer Regulatory Authority
SURREY, BC, Dec. 8 /CNW/ - Graeme Roberts, a former Mayor of Nanaimo, has been elected to Chair the Motor Vehicle Sales Authority of B.C. (VSA), which regulates and supervises $15 billion of retail activity in the province each year, 20 cents on every retail dollar.
Appointed to the VSA Board during 2009, he was elected to the Chair this Fall by fellow Board members. He succeeds Robert J. Stewart, the former Vancouver Police Chief and founding Chair of the Justice Institute of B.C., who was instrumental in the founding of the VSA in 2004 and all policy matters since.
The independent VSA, with a mandate to serve both consumers and industry, is delegated by government to administer the Motor Dealer Act, its regulations, as well as the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act and other statutes as they relate to the retail sale of motor vehicles. Motor vehicle dealers and all salespeople must be licensed and standards of practice are clearly defined. The Board of Directors reflects that mission, composed of prominent individuals from both industry and the public at large.
Graeme Roberts, who now resides in Brentwood Bay, B.C., has served in senior executive and Board of Directors positions for a succession of public and private sector entities, local, regional and national. He is a past Chairman of the British Columbia Public Service Commission and also served on the Boards of Air Canada Jazz, its predecessors and the B.C. Ferry Corporation. Graeme is a member of the Board of Directors of the Victoria Airport Authority. His business background includes the ownership of Toyota and Honda dealerships in Nanaimo. He is a past-president of what is now the New Car Dealers Association of B.C.
