Registration now open for the Canadian Association of Journalists' 2012 conference

TORONTO, Jan. 26, 2012 /CNW/ - The CAJ is pleased to announce that registration for the 2012 conference is now open.

The conference is scheduled to run from Friday, April 27, to Sunday, April 29, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto. Full-conference and single-day registration is available, with pricing for CAJ members, affiliate members non-members and students. A conference rate has also been set with the Royal York. "The annual conference is our premiere event, providing an opportunity for professional development, networking and camaraderie at a reasonable cost," CAJ president Hugo Rodrigues said. "We are working hard on putting together a solid program for delegates, capped off by our annual CAJ Awards gala where we honour the best in Canadian journalism and hand out Canada's top investigative journalism prize, the Don McGillivray Award."

Rates for the conference start at $239 for CAJ members for the full weekend, including a ticket to the awards gala. Student member rates start at $75, with single-day registration starting at $100. These rates will go up on April 5.

Sessions include a discussion on the professionalization of journalists, a panel on the ethics of online corrections, a special presentation from Huffington Post Canada, computer-assisted reporting workshops, tips from Google, Facebook, Twitter, BuzzData, the future of radio morning shows and much more.

For the first time, the CAJ's three-day line up will kick off during Newspapers Canada's annual Ink&Beyond conference, which starts April 26 at the same hotel. This partnership will allow those attending either conference to attend a full day of sessions on the Friday April 27, a day that's capped off by the annual galas for the National Newspaper Awards and the Ontario Community Newspaper Association. Planning on attending Ink&Beyond or the NNA gala? Special pricing for those interested in extending their stay to attend the CAJ conference is available. The CAJ is Canada's largest national professional organization for journalists from all media, representing almost 600 members across the country. The CAJ's primary roles are to provide public-interest advocacy and high-quality professional development for its members.
