RCMP Charge Nine More in Human Trafficking Investigation "OPAPA"

HAMILTON, ON, Sept. 7, 2012 /CNW/ - On September 6, 2012, the Immigration and Passport Section of the Hamilton Niagara Regional RCMP Detachment swore new charges against nine more people accused of participating in a criminal organization.

Since 2010, investigators have been working on Project "OPAPA", an RCMP-led investigation into a human trafficking ring that operated in the Hamilton area. Victims were recruited from Hungary and forced to work by their traffickers as labourers on Hamilton construction sites.

This week, the RCMP identified nine more people believed to have played a significant role in this criminal operation.  On September 6, 2012, the RCMP and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) arrested Zoltan Horvath (21 years old) in Hamilton without incident.  Charged jointly with Horvath are the following co-accused who are believed to reside outside of Canada -- warrants are currently being sought for their arrest:

Zsolt Szolnoki (41 years old)
Zsolt Pataki (36 years old)
Maria Kolompar (34 years old)
Gyozo Kolompar (20 years old)
Zoltan Horvath (43 years old)
David Zsolnoki (36 years old)
Szandra Zsolnoki (21 years old)
Jeno Bogdan (21 years old)

Horvath is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing for the criminal charges and is also facing immigration proceedings.
