Parliamentary Secretary Eve Adams Announces Intuit Canada Will Offer Priority Hiring to Canadian Veterans

MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 25, 2013 /CNW/ - On behalf of the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister for La Francophonie, Eve Adams, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Brampton South, congratulated Jeff Cates, Managing Director of Intuit Canada, on today's announcement that the corporation will give Canada's Veterans priority when hiring employees.

Intuit Canada is consistently recognized as an employer of choice. In April 2013, Intuit was ranked as one of the best workplaces in Canada in the Great Places to Work report, climbing six spots from number 8 in 2012 to the number 2 position. Intuit has also been on Fortune's list of the World's Most Admired software companies for ten years, taking the number 3 spot in 2013.

"I commend Intuit Canada for its commitment to Canada's Veterans and for giving priority to Veterans when hiring. Intuit is working hand in hand with our Government and joining other corporate partners to promote Canada's highly skilled Veterans," said Minister Blaney. "Through the Hire a Veteran initiative, Intuit Canada is giving Veterans new and interesting opportunities to make a successful transition from military to civilian life."

"Canada's Veterans are exceptionally well-trained and accomplished individuals; they have extensive knowledge and important skills expertise to offer private sector industry," said Parliamentary Secretary Adams. "I applaud the efforts of Intuit Canada, a national leader in business management and software development, for joining our Hire a Veteran initiative. I am proud to welcome Intuit as the first technology company to participate in this job-creating initiative. Through focussed partnerships with companies like Intuit, we can enable Canada's Veterans to secure meaningful career opportunities."

"Intuit Canada is honoured to be partnering with Veterans Affairs Canada through the Hire a Veteran program," said Mr. Cates. "We see the Hire a Veteran program as a win-win: it gives Intuit the opportunity to find people with the skills and experience we need to continue growing, and it gives skilled Veterans the opportunity to chart out a private sector career path."

The work of Intuit Canada builds upon the Veterans Transition Action Plan, launched last fall by Minister Blaney. The plan consists of new measures for cutting red tape for Veterans, enhancements to service delivery, post-military career opportunities for Veterans, ground-breaking research on the needs of releasing Canadian Armed Forces personnel, and enhanced cultural awareness.
