MV-1, the first purpose-built, universally accessible vehicle is on the roads of Longueuil, Laval and Montreal today

MONTREAL, Feb. 25, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The demand for transport for people with disabilities is rising rapidly, creating a challenge for service providers either in planning or in the choice of tools available. To meet this demand, we introduce the MV -1, the only universally accessible vehicle designed and assembled in the factory.

The MV-1 vehicle is dedicated to transporting regular passenger and disabled passengers in public or private sectors. It effectively addresses the needs of all disabled people including those in large wheelchairs.

Its versatility enables the vehicle to multi-task for a wide variety of situations. It offers the taxi industry a solid and robust vehicle including an integrated ramp and a spacious interior.

This vehicle is manufactured in the United States in a dedicated assembly facility. Ten years of intensive research and development were required for VPG Autos to put this unique vehicle on the road. MV-1 Canada is the exclusive distributor in Canada. For Québec province, the groupe Handi Services has been chosen to distribute the MV-1. NAPA AUTOPRO provides vehicle warranty and maintenance across Canada.

Available since January 2012 in the United States and since May 2012 in the rest of Canada, our vehicle meets the needs of all users whether in private or commercial applications.

Today, February 25, 2013 marks the launch of the MV-1 in Quebec. As a demonstration project, the MV-1 will be used specifically as a taxi. Indeed, over the next 10 weeks, 6 MV-1 taxis will serve regular customers and passengers with disabilities on the island of Montreal, in Laval, as well as Longueuil.

Le Comité provincial de concertation et de développement de l'industrie du taxi (the provincial committee for consultation and development of the taxi industry - CPCDIT) which represents taxi industry in Quebec, le ministère des Transports du Québec (Ministry of Transportation, Quebec - MTQ), le Bureau du taxi et du remorquage de la Ville de Montréal (Taxi and Towing office, City of Montreal - BTRVM), public transport society of Laval, Montréal and Longueuil and several organizations representing community associations are working with MV-1 Canada on this demonstration project.

Our partners welcome the MV-1 as an additional option highly likely to meet the needs of their customers. During the project, we will conduct technical assessments of the vehicle and collect feedback from drivers and a variety of different users. The results of these assessments will identify the extent to which this new vehicle meets the requirements of respective customers, allowing us to improve future versions of the MV-1.
