Moving out with no pain

MONTREAL, June 26, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Are you moving this weekend? Over 60% of people living in Montreal are tenants, which explains why Moving Day gets so frantic on July 1st. You should take the necessary measures to avoid neuro-musculo-skeletal injuries. Moving your furniture with a smile and without any pain is actually possible, as long as you prepare correctly.

Every year, there is an increase in the number of chiropractic patients around that period of high physical demand. This comes as no surprise considering that people, overtaken by excitement and fatigue, try to work as fast as they can to cross that off their checklist and just do not pay attention to their muscles and back. That is why herniated disks, lumbar pain and muscular soreness are so common during that time of the year. So, what can you do to avoid them?

  • Have your chiropractor check the health state of your neuro-muscular-skeletal system before moving out, which can be a very straining physically
  • Use medium or small size boxes and avoid overpacking them
  • Choose boxes that have handles to allow a better grip
  • Invite family and friends to give you a hand

  • Take time to warm up before starting to move out
  • Take frequent breaks and stay hydrated
  • Bend down using your knees, not your back
  • Lift loads using the strength of your legs
  • Ask for help if you need to move something heavy
  • Keep loads close to your body in order to limit the tension to the muscles and articulations
  • Turn using your feet, not your upper body

  • Stretch out to avoid muscle soreness
  • Make an appointment with your chiropractor in case you feel pain more than 48 hours after you have moved out

Do not forget that moving is not a way to get in shape. It is strongly recommended to see a chiropractor before and after your move. A chiropractic doctor will give you the tools you need to avoid injuries and be able to get back on your feet really fast after this gruelling effort. A chiropractic adjustment could relieve your pain!
