Media advisory: The Burundian Diaspora meets with the Government and the opposition parties Français
OTTAWA, June 15, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - June 16th : The Rassemblement de la Diaspora Burundaise du Canada is meeting with Members of Parliament Paul Dewar, Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe, Wayne Marston, Marc Garneau, Mauril Belanger, Senator Mobina Jaffar and with representatives from the offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security.
Burundi is in the midst of serious political crises, and on the brink of a civil war. The Burundian diaspora is extremely worried and preoccupied by the expulsion of Burundian nationals from Canada.
Burundians have held peaceful protests in the streets of Burundi, and have been reprimanded violently by the police, since the confirmation of President Pierre Nkurunziza's illegal candidacy for a third term on April 25 2015. Many people have been injured, killed, and 110,000 refugees have fled Burundi.
Currently, 53 Burundian nationals in Canada have received removal orders, and over 650 people are vulnerable to receive them and to be sent back to Burundi.
Many voices, including those of many European countries, the United States, the African Union, the European Union and the United Nations have spoken out against the President's bid, deemed as illegal, for a third term. The Burundian diaspora hopes that Canada will join its name to these defenders of democracy in Africa.
The RDBC is a grassroots movement that was created following the confirmation of President Pierre Nkurunziza's candidacy for a third term. The RDBC's goal is to stand up for the respect of the Arusha Peace and Reconciliation Agreement for Burundi.
