Who: | More than 250 employees, friends and family of Toronto Hydro, City of Toronto staff and LEAF - Local Enhancement & Appreciation of Forests. |
What: | Toronto Hydro, with LEAF and the City of Toronto, is undertaking its ninth annual tree planting event. Over 200 native trees and shrubs will be planted in Centennial Park, including White Spruce, Red maple, Bur Oak, Chokecherry, Grey dogwood and Pasture Rose. In addition to new plantings, the team will clean the surrounding area of garbage and debris to help maintain one of Toronto's vital green spaces. |
Why: | As part of its commitment to biodiversity, Toronto Hydro and its partners have planted more than 2,700 trees and shrubs since 2004. Last year alone, Toronto Hydro planted 500 trees at the annual event. Trees are vital to battling climate change due to their natural ability to remove CO2 from the atmosphere directly reducing the growth of Greenhouse Gases. |
