Manitoba Hydro Selects RiskAdvisory for Commodities Trading Risk Management
CALGARY, Alberta, April 25, 2012 /CNW/ - Manitoba Hydro, one of Canada's largest integrated electricity and natural gas utilities, has chosen RiskAdvisory's SAS BookRunner v12 Commodity Trading Risk Management (CTRM) solution to provide business analytics and data aggregation capabilities to the export power middle office function of its Corporate Risk Management Department. RiskAdvisory, a division of business analytics leader SAS, is implementing BookRunner to enhance Manitoba Hydro's efforts to continually improve its operating capabilities through its technology choices, part of the firm's corporate vision to be North America's leading utility in terms of safety, rates, reliability, customer satisfaction and environmental leadership.
RiskAdvisory uses an Enterprise Commodity Risk Aggregation and Analytics (ECRAA) approach to help customers like Manitoba Hydro aggregate disparate data from internal and external sources into a trusted central system to reduce errors and maintain data veracity, then bring the data to life by applying powerful risk analytics, running real-time simulations and generating dashboards and reports. Enabled through BookRunner v12, ECRAA can integrate Manitoba Hydro's existing systems, produce high-value reports and enable advanced analytics – factors that proved to be key strengths which contributed to the firm's selection decision.
"We needed a solution that works across the functional lines of credit risk, market risk, and compliance reporting," said Cory Rach, Senior Market Risk Analyst in Manitoba Hydro's Corporate Risk Management department. "BookRunner, which incorporates SAS Business Intelligence tools, demonstrated strong analytics, reporting capabilities and user flexibility which were all important business requirements Manitoba Hydro identified during its system selection process."
RiskAdvisory's general manager, Karen Joslyn, said, "RiskAdvisory is pleased that Manitoba Hydro has partnered with us and affirmed the potential of our solution to meet their needs, particularly because of the SAS-enabled capabilities for reporting and analytics. This was precisely what BookRunner v12 was designed to do, to provide an advanced ECRAA integration and analytics capability within the framework of a purpose-built system for commodity trading and risk management."
