Malley receives CPRS Outstanding Achievement Award

OTTAWA-GATINEAU, June 20, 2013 /CNW/ - The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) honoured Kathy Malley, APR, Vice-President, Malley Industries Inc., with the 2013 Outstanding Achievement Award. Malley was recognized for her advocacy and commitment to the Society's professional Accreditation program. Her efforts resulted in the betterment of CPRS and the enhancement of its image in the eyes of other Canadians in the profession. She received a framed certificate and was acknowledged amongst her peers at the CPRS 2013 National Awards Gala on June 11 in Gatineau, QC.

"Having been in the public relations industry for decades and a member of CPRS for almost 30 years, I am rarely at a loss for words but I was on the evening of the 2013 CPRS National Awards," said Malley. "I had no idea that I was being acknowledged in such a significant manner and was deeply humbled and moved to receive the Outstanding Achievement Award. I sincerely wish to thank my colleagues for acknowledging my work and dedication. I will always treasure this honour."

Malley has made advocating for the Society's professional designation, Accredited in Public Relations (APR), her personal and professional mission for many years. She has served the accreditation process through a number of roles, including accreditation chair for New Brunswick, exam grader, exam invigilator, exam development contributor, member of the National Council on Accreditation, and more recently as Accreditation Chief Examiner.

"Kathy's contribution to the professional standards of public relations in Canada is significant. As a result of her efforts — her leadership role as Chief Examiner, her individual contributions as mentor and coach, and collaboration with staff and other members of the Accreditation Council — CPRS has an accreditation program that is second to none in North America," said Sarah K. Jones APR, FCPRS and Barbara Sheffield APR, FCPRS LM, Malley's nominators, in a joint statement.

The Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes the long-term dedication of a CPRS member and pays tribute to a single, but nonetheless significant effort. It was one of six Major Awards presented at this year's awards gala. The Major Awards recognize exceptional involvement in the public relations profession and candidates are nominated by peers.
