After That, Find Ways to Lower Your Electricity Bill and Save with the New PowerLens™ Energy Calculator
TORONTO, May 17, 2012 /CNW/ - More than 5,000 customers have already tried it, and they like it! Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited ("Toronto Hydro") is pleased to offer its residential customers the PowerLens Energy Calculator. This new calculator allows families to analyze smart meter consumption factoring in their home's size, age and appliances, and to identify where they use energy. They receive personalized recommendations to lower their consumption by adopting various energy efficient measures. .
The PowerLens Energy Calculator can be accessed through the Time-of-Use portal on the Toronto Hydro website, www.torontohydro.com. Using the tool is easy. Customers just need to answer a number of questions relating to their home's size, age and energy appliances.
PowerLens also calculates a breakdown of the home's annual electricity use, compares the home to similar houses in Toronto, and provides a customized report on how to save electricity and money. Now, if customers want to know how much money is saved by upgrading that old thermostat to a new programmable one, or by shifting energy use to lower-priced off peak periods, they will be able to calculate the amount based on personal consumption patterns and home details. In addition, customers will be able to immediately view any conservation program offers or rebates available to them via the "recommendations feature" on the website.
The PowerLens Energy Calculator is available to residential Toronto Hydro customers, living in detached, semi-detached, or town homes with at least 12 months of smart meter history.
This calculator could not have come at a better time. The Ontario Energy Board recently announced the new summer rates taking effect on May 1, 2012. The Time-of-Use (TOU) time blocks are as follows:
QUOTE
"The calculator is part of an ongoing program to help customers understand where they use energy and what they can do to reduce and save under the TOU rate structure," says Chris Tyrrell, Vice President Customer Care and Chief Conservation Officer, Toronto Hydro. "It's the first of its kind in North America and it's an important step in providing our customers with easy-to-use solutions to help them better understand conservation."
