KITCHENER, ON, May 28, 2014 /CNW/ - The former hardscrabble town of Kitchener secures its reputation as a Canadian leader in experimental art this week when CAFKA.14, the region's 9th biennial exhibition of art in public spaces, opens May 31-June 29, 2014.
CAFKA.14: Contemporary Art in the Public Space makes the usual unusual as dozens of local, national, and international artists put familiar Waterloo Region landmarks at the heart of ephemeral, outrageous, and sometimes astonishing public art works.
"Its free, it's accessible, it's in your face," said Karie Liao, artistic director of arts collective CAFKA (Contemporary Art Forum, Kitchener and Area). "CAFKA.14 is about bringing art to the people, making it part of everyday life, changing the way we look at familiar places."
CAFKA.14 is part of a month-long celebration of contemporary art, along with the Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound. Visit www.cafka.org for details.
