"Boland is a bold new old-soul…" - The Globe and Mail

TORONTO/LOS ANGELES, July 30, 2013 /CNW/ - Long Story, Short (11 x five minutes), an edgy, provocative and honest new web series created and written by acclaimed actor Katie Boland (The Master; Reign), will launch exclusively on KoldCast TV in the United States and Canada on Monday, August 19, with the first episode now available. Co-created and directed by Gail Harvey (Murdoch Mysteries; Lost Girl) and distributed by Shaftesbury, the Toronto-shot series follows a young twenty-something woman (Boland) and her two best friends as they navigate messy relationships, bad dates, drunken mishaps and other assorted humiliations on the road to adulthood. Following its premiere on August 19, a new episode will be posted on KoldCast each Monday. View the series trailer and first episode at http://www.koldcast.tv/video/the_summer_i_lost_my_mind.

"Every network diligently works to deliver the strongest possible programming lineup to its audience," said David S. Samuels, KoldCast TV CEO. "From the masses of pitches and show submissions we receive each month, only a handful now make KoldCast's lineup. Long Story, Short has earned its place by telling a fabulous story that everyone can relate to. The show is replete with all the angst-ridden, post-adolescent woes and unrequited love that any juicy series needs, while presenting high caliber acting and production values often difficult to attain in a budget constrained web series world. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce Long Story, Short to our viewers as it sets the bar for the future of episodic ITV."

"Long Story, Short is based entirely on my life," said Boland. "I was inspired by the giant feelings of youth; the confusion, the vulnerability, the elation and most of all, the closeness you feel to your friends. I hope KoldCast viewers will relate to the honesty with which the story is told, and will see reflections of themselves and their relationships in the series and its characters."

Kristen Harvey (Katie Boland) is a beautiful, funny and self-deprecating 21-year-old with no idea what she's doing with her life. She has just moved back to Toronto, after failing to cut it at art school in New York City. Before moving to New York, Kristen broke up with her first love, Andrew (Adam Butcher, Republic of Doyle), certain she wouldn't miss the hometown guy in The Big Apple. She was wrong. So she comes home, hoping to win Andrew back. Much to her surprise, Andrew has a new girlfriend and won't give Kristen the time of day. Now, back in her childhood bedroom, Kristen is heartbroken and bored, with too much time on her hands. Unfortunately, Kristen has two downfalls: alcohol and bad men. Thankfully, she isn't alone on this journey. Her two best friends - the cynical and unconventional Carson (Tommie-Amber Pirie, Michael: Tuesdays & Thursdays) and more reserved English student Lucy (Lauren Collins, Degrassi: The Next Generation), who is trying to manage a 'friends with benefits' relationship with their best guy friend, Dave (Michael Seater, Life with Derek) - have also recently found themselves living at home again and are equally aimless. Together, the three of them are ready to break some rules and move beyond their boundaries.

Comedic and surprising, each serialized episode of Long Story, Short is structured around the girls' customary 'hangover' breakfast, where they deconstruct the previous night's antics with a "long story, short" recap of what happened, followed by a cliffhanger ending. Set in the eclectic neighborhoods, bars and restaurants of Toronto, the series was filmed on location in the fall of 2012. The series also features music from a variety of Toronto-based indie musicians, including The Rural Alberta Advantage, Dinosaur Bones and rapper Michael Boland

Chosen by Elle Canada as one of the top three Canadians to watch and by the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) as one of their inaugural Rising Stars, actor and writer Katie Boland divides her time between Los Angeles and Toronto. Acting professionally since the age of nine with over 45 roles to date, Boland's credits include the hotly anticipated new CW Network series Reign premiering this fall; Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master; Atom Egoyan's Adoration; Daydream Nation; Terminal City; and four films set to premiere at a variety of major festivals this fall including the Venice International Film Festival: Ferocious, Looking is the Original Sin, Sex After Kids and Gerontophilia. Boland's literary debut, a collection of short stories entitled Eat Your Heart Out, was released by Canadian publisher Brindle & Glass on April 2, 2013 to rave reviews.

Produced with the participation of the Independent Production Fund, Long Story, Short is created and written by Katie Boland, co-created and directed by Gail Harvey (Murdoch Mysteries; Lost Girl), and produced by Harvey and Boland. The series is distributed by Shaftesbury.
