Hyatt response to CSN strike

MONTREAL, July 27, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The following is a statement from Raymond Soumako, General Manager, Hyatt Regency Montreal.

Earlier this week, a group of Hyatt associates disregarded our dress code policy in a deliberate attempt led by Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) to provoke punitive action on the part of management. In accordance with standard operating procedures, associates were presented a choice - to comply with the dress code and return to work or refuse and forfeit their shift that day. It is unfortunate that this exchange has been misrepresented and used to support CSN strike activities that, in addition to Hyatt Regency Montreal, threaten to affect hotels across the city.

Hyatt Regency Montreal is committed to working with associates to ensure their ongoing workplace satisfaction. The CSN strike will have a direct and negative impact on our associates, who depend on business at our hotel for their livelihoods and contradicts the union's stated value proposition to "enable workers to achieve their goals." CSN actions will also add to challenges faced by the Montreal hospitality industry as it works to attract tourism and travel business to the region.

The culture at Hyatt Regency Montreal is based on mutual respect. It is regrettable that strike activity will delay negotiations with associates that were initiated more than three months ago. We welcome the opportunity to get back to the bargaining table to continue negotiating a new collective agreement. Our aim is to provide an equitable benefits package and terms and conditions of employment that will benefit our valued associates and allow us to sustain a business that is recognized by industry for making Montreal a world-class tourist destination.
