SAINT-LÉONARD, NB, April 10, 2012 /CNW/ - Residents and visitors in Saint-Léonard will be able to enjoy an enriching cultural experience at the 9th Rendez-vous des artistes, thanks to an investment from the Government of Canada. This was announced today by the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) (La Francophonie) and Member of Parliament (Madawaska-Restigouche), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
Funding will support the Rendez-vous des artistes, a five-day artists' festival in Saint-Léonard. Planned activities include musical evenings, painting demonstrations, a performance by a local dance troupe, and a historical presentation. The festival will bring together more than 200 local artists, artisans, and historical performers, and is expected to draw about 15,000 participants.
"Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to invest in cultural activities that enrich the quality of life in communities," said Minister Moore. "By supporting the Rendez-vous des artistes, our Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen our economy, boost tourism, and support our arts, culture, and heritage."
"I am pleased that our Government is supporting a popular cultural event that will bring residents and visitors together to celebrate the arts in Saint-Léonard," said Minister Valcourt. "I commend the organizers, volunteers, and artists for providing opportunities to experience local arts and heritage activities."
"The Rendez-vous des Artistes is pleased to receive financial support from the Government of Canada," said Gail Dubé, Treasurer. "The funding will be used to support our symposium and encourage the development of cultural activities in our region. With this support, we will be able to increase Canadians' awareness of the visual arts and to develop close relationships with them. It will help us make our activities stand out from all the other artistic activities of this kind in New Brunswick."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $5,300 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
