Forensic Services and Coroner's Complex to Protect Public Safety and Taxpayers

TORONTO, Nov. 28, 2013 /CNW/ - The Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships (CCPPP) congratulates the Government of Ontario on the official opening of the state-of-the-art Forensic Services and Coroner's Complex to house the Office of the Chief Coroner, the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service and the Centre of Forensic Sciences.

Infrastructure Ontario managed the project's procurement on behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, who is partnering with Carillion Secure Solutions, the private consortium that will design, build, finance and maintain the new, 49,000-square-metre building under a 30-year agreement.

Using Ontario's Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP) approach, there will be an estimated $111.5 million (13.5 per cent) cost savings compared to traditional public sector infrastructure delivery. The complex has been built and will be maintained to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification. This will ensure that the facilities minimize the environmental impact, operate at peak efficiency and provide vital services to Ontario communities for decades to come.

This project is one of over 200 across Canada using the public-private partnership approach to strengthen the economy, protect taxpayers and deliver innovative solutions to complex public needs.
