A firm that looks to the future, without losing sight of its roots
CALGARY, July 4, 2012 /CNW/ - Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP (FMC), one of
Canada's leading business and litigation law firms, is pleased to be
celebrating the 100th anniversary of its Calgary office.
Our milestone celebrations coincide with the 100th Anniversary of the Calgary Stampede. We share the celebrations with
the Calgary Stampede this year with our very own FMC chuckwagon in the
Rangeland Derby. At the reins of our wagon will be Vern Nolin, a CPCA
Champion with several appearances at the Calgary Stampede.
As we reflect on the past 100 years as a leading member of the business
community, FMC Calgary prides itself on looking to the future as a
leading law firm in a modern city with a frontier feel. Since its
origins in 1912, FMC Calgary has provided counsel on numerous
high-profile cases and has been privileged to call itself home to a
multitude of prominent legal minds.
"FMC has experienced tremendous growth over the past 100 years," said
Tamela Coates, Managing Partner of the FMC Calgary office. "As
business continues to grow and diversify we look to the future, we'll
be there, continuing to provide the high level of client service on
which we pride ourselves."
The Calgary office was opened in 1912 by two entrepreneurial lawyers
from Nova Scotia, Lloyd Hamilton Fenerty and Henry Phipps Otty Savary.
The flourishing Alberta oil industry contributed to the firm's growth
and, by 1985, it was home to 60 lawyers. In 1991, Fenerty Robertson
Fraser & Hatch, as it was known then, merged with the established
Edmonton-based firm, Milner & Steer, to become Milner Fenerty, the
largest law firm in Alberta. Two further mergers, with Fraser & Beatty
and then Byers Casgrain, led to Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP and one of
Canada's leading national law firms. Through these mergers, FMC has
become a balanced firm from east to west with more than 500 lawyers and
offices in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver.
FMC has deep roots in each of the cities, regions and business
communities it serves.
In addition to its contributions to the legal community, FMC Calgary is
committed to giving back to the broader community it serves. The firm
maintains active relationships and ongoing support with charities and
local arts program, including The United Way, Wellspring Calgary, the
Glenbow Museum and Calgary's marquee outdoor event, the Calgary
Stampede. FMC's Calgary office has always been an enthusiastic
participant of the Calgary Stampede and this year it proudly shares its
100th anniversary with the event.
"I would like to personally congratulate FMC Calgary on its 100th anniversary," said Chris Pinnington, FMC's Chief Executive Officer.
"At FMC, every office is a key component of our firm. Our ability to
provide our clients with the best legal and professional advice at the
national and regional levels is what sets us apart from our
