TORONTO, Sept. 4, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Family Channel celebrates its 10th annual Bullying Awareness Week with a comprehensive campaign encouraging Canadian students to Join the Stand UP! Network and stop bullying in their communities. From November 12 to 18, Family will promote bullying prevention with a week of special
programming, the release of an original song, a dedicated website and a
Stand UP! student rally in Toronto. Family.ca is now accepting entries from students and classes wishing to attend
As part of this year's campaign, Family commissioned an original song
titled "Stand UP! Make Some Noise" that encourages bullying bystanders
to intervene when they witness bullying. Lending their voices to the
track are special musical guests, Family stars and Canadian youth. The
song will be available on Family.ca beginning November 1, with a music
video debuting November 12 and airing on Family Channel throughout
Bullying Awareness Week.
"It's an incredible achievement to be marking ten years of bullying
awareness initiatives at Family Channel and we appreciate all of the
support we've received from our partners at PREVNet, Family stars and
the more than 50 school communities we've visited," said Joe Tedesco, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Astral Kids. "Over the past decade we've been dedicated to providing viewers and
their families with information and resources to face bullying head on.
By enhancing traditional elements of our campaign, this year is a
reflection of our commitment to empowering Canadian students, teachers
and parents to continue addressing this important issue."
Understanding the importance of connecting with students directly,
Family is marking its 10th anniversary campaign with a Stand UP! Rally in Toronto on October 25. While in past years Family has gone into
communities to spread the Stand UP! message, this year the channel will
bring together students in one location to promote unity against
bullying. This single rally initiative will emphasize the campaign's
theme, "Join the Stand UP! Network," and serves to remind students that
they aren't alone when facing bullying.
