Fact Check - Hudak's Half Million Jobs Plan?

TORONTO, May 16, 2014 /CNW/ - Tim Hudak laid out his 1 million job plan, and it turns out to be a half million plan with some pretty weak math behind it.

Tim Hudak finally released his sources and documents to the public yesterday, and we found out why he had hesitated so long.

Hudak's own numbers show that over the next 8 years almost half of the jobs he is trying to claim credit for will be created without his radical policies.

His math for jobs growth due to personal income tax cuts doesn't agree with the independent economists he cited either. The Conference board of Canada report indicates that Hudak's personal income tax cuts would create less than half the jobs that he claims.

The Facts

It is estimated that the provincial economy would create more than 523,000 jobs on its own, so Hudak was only ever trying to make up that difference, it turns out. (Page 3, Million Jobs Plan)

The Conference Board of Canada indicates that, on average, a 1% reduction in personal income taxes may create 2,170 jobs. Tim Hudak is claiming a job creation rate that is more than twice this figure. (Page 7, Conference Board of Canada report, the Impact of Tax Measures on Ontario's Economy)
