OTTAWA, May 24, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - Catherine Cano, President and General Manager of the Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC), is pleased to announce the appointment of Esther Bégin as the network's French Anchor. Starting next fall, Esther will host a daily program during sitting weeks of the House of Commons as well as feature interviews with Canadian political personalities.
A seasoned and accomplished communications professional, Esther has more than 25 years of experience in journalism and broadcasting. As anchor at LCN and TVA from 1997 to 2007 as well as TQS (currently known as V Télé) from July 2007 to May 2008, she has hosted hundreds of interviews with key decision makers in Quebec and Canada, including prime ministers, cabinet ministers and business leaders, as well as leaders in the economic, social, cultural and environmental sectors. She has also hosted decision day coverage in dozens of Quebec, Canadian and American elections.
More recently, she produced the documentary series Fièvre politique, which was broadcast on Télé-Québec and later honoured at the Prix Gémeaux in 2017. She has also worked as a journalist and correspondent for RDI and ICI Radio-Canada on Canada's West Coast.
From 2009 to 2012, she lived in New York where she worked as the American society correspondent for several Quebec media outlets (La Presse, Radio-Canada, 98.5 FM, Chatelaine, Ricardo and Yahoo). She is also the author of the bestseller Carnet d'une flâneuse à New York.
"I am thrilled to become the next French Anchor of CPAC, a channel devoted entirely to politics and public affairs, where I will be able to lean upon my 25 years of experience in journalism," said Esther Bégin. "CPAC is widely recognized for its credibility, objectivity and high-quality content offering, and plays an important role towards countering cynicism of the political process."
"We are very excited to welcome such an experienced and passionate journalist like Esther Bégin to lead our team," said Catherine Cano, President and General Manager of CPAC. "She has the important task of making the various issues affecting francophones in Quebec and the rest of Canada known and understood. As we know, decisions made in Ottawa have an impact on citizens and Esther will help shine a light on the work of our elected officials and our democratic institutions."
