Early Recovery Reduces Hospital Cost and Faster Rehabilitation
VANCOUVER, Oct. 10, 2012 /CNW/ - A new research study including recovery following leg amputation associated with diabetes is being presented in Vancouver at the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine October 11-13, 2012. The study conducted at Vidant Hospital, Greenville, North Carolina and published by Eastern Carolina University demonstrated faster post surgical wound healing. The study used innovative technology with Farabloc fabric and Mirror Therapy in post operation care with results including improved healing and edema reduction.
The shorter time for wound closure and edema has a significant impact on the use of pain medication, secondary infection and duration of hospitalization. These criteria are important cost drivers and patient outcomes. Secondary to this recovery was the earlier entry and completion of rehabilitation.
The research was conducted for a Master's thesis undertaken by occupational therapist, Helen Houston. Three poster presentations arising from the research findings are being presented for the first time in Canada at the Congress. This research has the potential to influence major advancements in post surgical care as well as chronic pain management.
Farabloc fabric is linen-like product containing ultrathin metal fibres and is shown to provide significant shielding against high frequency Electromagnetic Fields (EMF). The absence of EMF is known to provide recovery benefits including improved connective tissue repair.
This new recovery finding including management of chronic pain adds to existing clinical studies involving Farabloc that are published in Medical Journals indexed by PubMed, a prestigious listing of research advances by the United States National Library of Medicine of the National Institutes of Health. These studies concerned the effectiveness of Farabloc fabric in treating phantom limb pain, delayed-onset muscle soreness, and fibromyalgia.
