TORONTO, Aug. 20, 2012 /CNW/ - Cymat Technologies Ltd. ("Cymat" or the "Company"), a material technologies company, today announced that its SmartMetalTM product is an important component in an armouring panel produced by Bravo Zulu Services Inc. ("Bravo Zulu").
Cymat Technologies has been working with Bravo Zulu (www.bzsinc.com), a boutique threat protection company, for the last two years. Bravo Zulu designs and engineers composite panels that combine the ability to not just survive, but defeat significant ballistic threats along with both high intensity blasts, such as improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and long duration pressure wave blast such as the BP well explosion. Over these years Bravo Zulu has been trialing different panel solutions aimed at a versatile product that has both superior ballistic and blast properties while optimizing weight and thickness for varying applications. During this period Cymat has worked closely with Bravo Zulu providing different SmartMetalTM parts for a variety of tests and customer validations.
Bravo Zulu, together with Texas Armoring Corporation (TAC), has just announced (http://www.texasarmoring.com/blog/tag/military-vehicles/) that it will be providing a premium composite undershield as part of TAC's new line of special explosion-resistant SUVs. In this announcement TAC President and CEO Trent Kimball stated, "Nothing like this has ever been introduced in the market, and Bravo Zulu has done the research to ensure that our clients will be safer than we ever previously thought possible. The LC100 will stop armor-piercing rounds and multiple pounds of C4—it is serious, blast-eating protection and it is exactly what our clients need to stay safe from terrorist organizations." Bravo Zulu's Jason Miller said of the LC100, "We've done something incredible here—Texas Armoring's new offering will provide clients with military-grade blast protection and the comfort of a regular SUV."
Cymat is pleased to announce that its SmartMetalTM product is an important component in this new composite undershield, helping provide blast protection and energy absorption as part of an overall structure. David Fowler, President of Cymat commented, "Bravo Zulu has used a proprietary version of our material, and we are pleased to be a key part of this solution, now being included on TAC's new line of armored SUV's. We look forward to further success with Bravo Zulu on both vehicles and structures requiring multiple levels of protection."
About Cymat:
Cymat develops innovative materials for industry. The company has worldwide rights, through patents and licenses, for producing Stabilized Aluminum Foam. The ultra-light metallic foam is manufactured by bubbling gas through molten alloyed aluminum containing a dispersion of fine ceramic particles and can be produced as either Near-net Shapes or Flat Panels. The result is a revolutionary material with a wide array of features including very low density, mechanical energy absorption, thermal and acoustic insulation, is recyclable, time and temperature insensitive and has a relatively low cost of production. Cymat is collaborating with a number of partners spanning the architectural, blast mitigation and automotive industries. For further information, visit the Web site www.cymat.com.
