TAMPA, Fla., June 25, 2013 /CNW/ - The free online fundraising site, YouCaring has launched a curated list of fundraisers benefitting the victims of flooding in Calgary.
Victims of the Calgary flooding, or their friends and family, can now set up free fundraising websites at YouCaring.com. The site allows users to share their fundraisers through social networks, email and more to help raise money for recovery.
The money collected is available immediately through PayPal or WePay, and it can be used for immediate needs such as shelter, food, clothing or transportation.
"Our hearts are with those who have lost their homes and lives in the severe flooding in Calgary," said Brock Ketcher, one of the site's founders. "We are committed to providing a platform to get much needed emergency assistance to the families affected."
Crowd-sourced fundraising, like that available through YouCaring, has become an increasingly vital tool for international disaster recovery, with the American Red Cross calling it "invaluable" and "critical."
Unlike most other crowdfunding sites, YouCaring doesn't take fees from fundraisers. Other sites take a percentage of the total collected, but YouCaring operates solely by the generosity of donors from around the world.
The full damage from the Calgary flooding is just now beginning to be discovered, as evacuation orders for most homes across the area have been lifted. Although recovery has begun, the premier of Alberta is now estimating provincial cleanup efforts could take up to a decade.
If you know of anyone affected by the flooding, you can set up a fundraiser at YouCaring.com or share existing fundraisers with people you know.
If you're looking to help those affected, you can see at YouCaring.com a curated list of fundraisers for the flooding victims in Calgary. Even if you are unable to donate, help spread the word by sharing this link through your social networks or emailing it to your friends and family.
