Chloé Robichaud will represent Canada at Cannes' film Festival - Herd Leader in Cannes' official selection! Français
MONTREAL, April 17, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Herd Leader (v.f. Chef de meute), directed by the 24 year old Quebecer Chloé Robichaud, is part of the short films of the 2012 Selection for the 65th Festival de Cannes. The 10 films Selection was revealed this morning by the prestigious Festival.This is a rare privilege considering that thousands of short films were submitted from around the world. The Festival de Cannes takes place from May 16 to 27. The jury will award the Palme d'Or for Short Films, to be presented at the Festival's Closing Ceremony on Sunday 27 May.
The film
Herd Leader tells the story of Clara, a young woman who's overwhelming family can't understand her solitary life, wishing she would find someone to grow old with. Following her aunt's sudden death, Clara is put in charge of her pet. Little does she know that these are the first step to an unlikely, but empowering, friendship.
Totally self-financed, the film is produced by Fanny-Laure Malo, Sarah Pellerin and Chloé Robichaud, respectively from La Boîte à Fanny and Les films de la meute. These two young production companies were founded by four Inis graduates : Laurent Allaire, Sarah Pellerin, Chloé Robichaud and Fanny-Laure Malo. Eve Duranceau stars in the film along with Geneviève Boivin-Roussy, Jean-Sébastien Courchesne, Richard Fréchette, Monique Gosselin, Guillaume Lambert and France Pilotte.
Cannes' short films jury
This year, the jury for the Cinéfondation and short films will be presided over by Jean-Pierre Dardenne (Belgian director, scriptwriter and producer), and will be composed of Arsinée Khanjian (Canadian actress), Karim Aïnouz (Brazilian director and scriptwriter), Emmanuel Carràre (French writer, scripwriter and director) and Yu Lik-Wai (Chinese director of photography and filmmaker).
The short-film competition has discovered artists who have since risen to fame: Jane Campion, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Xavier Giannoli, Lynne Ramsay and Catalin Mituluscecu.
About Chloé Robichaud
Chloé Robichaud is a graduate from Concordia University (cinema) and L'Inis (directing). Her films have been selected in a number of prestigious festivals around the world, including Festival du Nouveau Cinéma and Vancouver International Film Festival. She was invited to Cannes twice before: in 2010 when Moi non plus was selected to screen in the Coup de Coeur at the Short Film Corner, and then again in 2011 when Nature Morte was selected as part of Courts du Québec présentés par la SODEC. Chloé Robichaud, with producer Fanny-Laure Malo, is currently working on her first feature film, "Sarah Runs", which should be shot in fall 2012.
