Chief-elect Bryce Williams looks forward to new term and promising future as new leader of Tsawwassen First Nation

TSAWWASSEN, BC, Sept. 6, 2012 /CNW/ - Tsawwassen First Nation Chief-elect Bryce Williams today thanked his community for participating in the 2nd general election in Tsawwassen First Nation's self-governing history.  "Tsawwassen Government is now entering its second mandate as the elected representatives of our proud, self-governing Nation," said Chief-elect Williams  "Our Government has come a long way in its first mandate, and there is still much to do.  Our second term promises to be extremely exciting, as we look to continue building a sustainable economy and revenue base to secure a healthy, promising future for our community.  None of this would be possible without the ongoing engagement, interest and participation of our Members in growing our community.  I wish to thank the nearly 60% of eligible Tsawwassen Members who took the time to vote and participate in building their community."

Chief-elect Williams also thanked all the candidates who ran in the election.  "I would like to thank all the candidates who took the time to share their energy and ideas for Tsawwassen First Nation.  I look forward to working with our newly elected team to continue building our future.  In particular, I want to extend a special thank-you to Chief Kim Baird for her many years of hard work and dedication to her community.  Through her tireless and groundbreaking efforts, she has given our Nation a promising future. We all owe her a great debt of service."

The vision and mandate of the new Government will focus on continuing with TFN's important economic development projects, along with initiatives to improve the health and wellness of the community. "We will continue to build on the important development work the previous Government started", Chief-elect Williams stated.  "We are committed to moving forward with all of our currently planned development projects - we have a unique opportunity to create an amazing future at Tsawwassen First Nation, and I intend to work closely with our partners to realize that future.  In addition to those projects, we will be focusing on important community initiatives.   We have a strong staff team and I look forward to working with them to implement a new agenda."

The new term of Tsawwassen Government begins on September 16th, 2012.  The Chief, Legislators and Executive Council will be formally sworn in on September 22nd, 2012, at TFN's Annual General Meeting.
