CDA welcomes East coast dermatologist as new president

OTTAWA, July 2, 2013 /CNW/ - The Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) is pleased to announce Dr. Richard Langley will be taking the helm as CDA President for the 2013-2014 term.

Each year during its Annual Conference, the CDA welcomes a new president; this year in Quebec City, Dr. Richard Langley of Halifax, Nova Scotia, will be stepping into this role. Dr. Langley received his undergraduate degree from Queens University, medical degree from Dalhousie University and completed his fellowship training at University of Toronto and at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, where he later joined the Faculty of Medicine as the Director of the Clinical Investigations Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital until June 2000. He is currently a professor of dermatology and Director of Research in the Division of Dermatology, Department of Medicine at Dalhousie University. Dr. Langley has authored over 250 articles, book chapters, and other publications and is a regular reviewer for several medical and dermatology journals. He has received numerous awards for teaching, research, and clinical practice, as well as for his many volunteer activities.

"As president, I hope to use this opportunity to address some of challenges the dermatology specialty in Canada faces" says Langley. "It is an honour to be a voice for Canadian dermatologists and represent the Association but also to devote time and effort to helping develop our organization and the specialty of dermatology in collaboration with colleagues across all areas of medicine."

Dr. Langley has been an active member of the CDA since 1997 and is very involved in several CDA initiatives and also holds a spot on a number of CDA committees including the Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery Editorial Board and the Sun Awareness Program Committee and directed the D4nD initiative. Through his years of involvement with the CDA, he has had a role in many past successes as well as current projects.
