OTTAWA, Aug. 25, 2015 /CNW/ - The Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board is proud to host the 26th Annual Canadian Association of Police Governance Conference, taking place in the City of Markham, August 27 to 29, 2015. The theme of this year's conference is Get Connected, showcasing the diversity and cultural richness of York Region.
Keynote speakers are Stephen Lewis, whose work with the United Nations has spanned two decades and Dr. Dave Williams, former Canadian astronaut and current President and Chief Executive Officer of Southlake Regional Health Centre. Plenary sessions include York Regional Police Celebrates Diversity, Raising the Voice of the Victim, On the Cusp of Radicalization – Recognizing the Signs and Community Mobilization, Perspectives on Lawsuits and Complaints and Intelligence Overview – Extremism Today. Only the breakout sessions will be closed to media.
The conference will take place at the Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites Conference Centre, located at 8500 Warden Avenue in Markham.
Media are invited to cover delegates as they attend the Taste of the World, an evening featuring foods from various cultures in York Region, which will be held at the Community Safety Village, located in Bruce's Mill Conservation Area, 3291 Stouffville Road in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville on Thursday, August 27 beginning at 6 p.m.
Delegates will be participating in a golf tournament on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at the Copper Creek Golf Club in Kleinburg, aiming to raise $10,000 for iRun & Rock, an organization that raises awareness for first responders, military and medical personnel living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The Canadian Association of Police Governance (CAPG) is a national organization dedicated to excellence in police governance in Canada. Since 1989, the CAPG has worked diligently to achieve the highest standards as the national voice of civilian oversight of municipal police. They have grown to represent 75 per cent of municipal police services through out Canada. The CAPG collaborates with other police services sector stakeholders across the nation, including police leaders, police sector associations, provincial, federal and municipal governments and their departments, police learning organizations and business partners.
