Canadian writer embedded in Dakar Rally

TORONTO, Jan. 9, 2012 /CNW/ - Early this morning the thirty-fourth running of the famous Dakar Rally entered the second half of its epic journey through South America, covering close to 10,000 kilometers in Argentina, Chile and finishing in Lima Peru on January 15. The next week will certainly test both drivers and vehicles as they face the sand, the dunes and the heat of Northern Chile and Southern Peru.

Normally, some 50% of the machines starting the race fall victim to its challenges.

Embedded as a member of the Tamarugal Honda Chile team, Canadian writer and businessman, David Mills has followed every minute of this epic journey, not from the comfort of a media van, but as part of the support team behind emerging Chilean motorcycle star, Daniel Gouet.

A seasoned motorcycle rider himself, Mills made arrangements to be part of the team to help Daniel and to fulfill a lifelong dream of seeing the Dakar from the inside. Little did he realize that this adventure would challenge his driving skills and his ability to live on minimal sleep eating dust every day. His daily blog takes one behind the scenes of this international event which has a following of some 70 million viewers worldwide.
