Canadian journalism charity co-hosts cross-border investigative conference in Toronto
TORONTO, Feb. 5, 2019 /CNW/ - Veritas - Advancing Journalism in the Public Interest is teaming up with Investigative Reporters and Editors to host a prestigious cross-border investigative conference in Toronto, May 4 - 5.
"The vital role investigative journalism plays in our lives is becoming increasingly evident to the public," said Robert Cribb, president of Veritas – Advancing Journalism in the Public Interest. "Bringing together some of the leading investigative thinkers and practitioners across the continent, this conference provides a unique opportunity to explore emerging models of collaboration and cross-border journalism that are re-inventing how we meet our public interest mandate."
Investigative Journalism Across Borders is the third international conference of the four-year-old Canadian charity which fosters journalistic professional development and public engagement in right-to-know issues. The conference training is designed for reporters, editors and producers from newspapers, TV, radio stations, Web and digital-only news sites and news blogs as well as for academics at universities and colleges.
It will present workshops and panel discussions on a broad variety of topics that will improve journalists' ability to find information on the Web quickly, point them to key documents and data that will add depth and context to daily work and quick-hit enterprise stories as well as long-term investigations. The workshops and sessions will also offer tips on bulletproofing stories, digging deeper on the Web with social media, search engines and much more. This workshop will focus on issues of shared interest between the U.S. and Canada.
The conference will also feature a Saturday night public event at the Art Gallery of Ontario: A on-one-one conversation with New York Times investigative journalist Susanne Craig, a Canadian reporter who has been at the centre of the newspaper's in-depth coverage of U.S. President Donald Trump.
