Breakout Spanish Film-TV Actress sets up the 'House of Angels' social justice drama inspired by true story

LOS ANGELES, May 6, 2013 /CNW/ - Actress Maria Luna is announcing a new feature drama film, House of Angels, which she will star in as Anna, the lead character. Luna wrote the script and is producing the film, which is expected to shoot later this year and enter major film festivals worldwide.

Inspired by a true story, the film follows three volunteers from the U.S. who go to Romania to aid a day care center. One of the volunteers develops a relationship with a troubled child who suffers from an abusive father. The volunteer plans to kidnap the child so they may live safely together in a cave in the forest.

Luna drew inspiration to create and act in the film after she volunteered six years ago at a real day care center just outside of Bucharest. The film may partially shoot there and is also location scouting Griffith Park in Los Angeles.

"It's a passion project," says Luna, "but it's also to create social justice awareness of many places that this is happening in the U.S. When you're doing this kind of project and working with kids, you live emotions to the fullest. There's nothing more raw than children and there's nothing harder to watch than them going through a hard life."

The announcement for Luna marks the latest of projects arriving in her slate. She recently joined Marc Scott Zicree's Space Command, a sci-fi thriller film series scheduled to begin principal photography in September. She's appearing in Gia Coppola's drama, Palo Alto, starring James Franco, Emma Roberts and Val Kilmer, that's due out later this year. Luna also recently reunited with sci-fi director extraordinaire Neil Johnson, acting in the role of Mariana in his forthcoming Starship: Rising, registered for release August 13.

One of the top burgeoning Spanish actresses in the business, Luna trained at the Actors Circle Theater, Stella Adler New York, UCLA and the University of San Francisco. She previously acted in Johnson's Bipolar Armageddon, Alien Armageddon and Alien Dawn. Her other credits include the mystery feature, Id, Barbara Kerek's adaptation of Forrest Gump, David Mireles' Split Identity, the TeleCinco TV series Los Serrano and the web series, LA Tap Water. She's also acted in the web series La Chamba and an I Love Lucy adaptation for Maker Studios.
