Argentina's Boxing Sisters Semi-Final Winners at the Continental Championships
CORNWALL, On, April 7, 2012 /CNW/ - A strong showing from all boxers, highlighted day three of competition at the 2012 American Boxing Confederation (AMBC) Women's Elite Continental Championships. Argentinian boxers, and sisters, Dayana and Leonela Sanchez both won facing their Canadian hosts.
Nineteen year-old Dayana Sanchez, 60 kg, defeated her 31 year-old rival Canada's Sandra Bizier in a 30-22 decision. Dayana Sanchez will face Bazilian Adriana Araujo in the final.
"I was nervous but I left the ring victorious winning to the local boxer. I felt confident and thanks to God I won," said Dayana Sanchez.
The other Sanchez sister, Leonela Sanchez, 57 kg, won a close bout against Canadian Melissa Guillemette 20-18. Leonela will face Brazilian Clelia Costa in the final.
The lone Canadian winner on day three was World Champion Mary Spencer, 75 kg, defeated a familiar foe from the Dominican Republic Yenebier Guillen. The two met in the Pan American Games final.
"She was a great opponent. We have boxed twice, I'm happy with my win," said Mary Spencer. She will face American Claressa Shields in tomorrow's final round of matches.
Canadian Mandy Bujold, 51 kg, lost to the USA's Marlen Esparza 16-14. Esparza will box Erika Matos from Brazil in the finals.
"I actually was a little run off at the beginning because she didn't do what she always does and it messed me up, but even when I was down in the second round, I went forward and I new I was going to win," sated Marlen Esparza
Tomorrow's finals will feature four Argentineans, seven USA boxers, five Brazilians, one from Barbados, and three Canadians.
