Annual Benefit Event of the OMHM Foundation - A Foundation on the Rise!

MONTREAL, June 5, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - A project of personal perseverance, namely, the scaling of the Acotango volcano, provided the backdrop yesterday for the annual benefit event of the OMHM Foundation. Some 300 people gathered under the marquee of the Palais des congrès terrace to attend the event and help the Foundation raise funds to support inspiring projects for youth living in Montreal social housing.

"The Foundation is entering its third year of existence and has already donated over $110,000 to the three main organizations it supports," said Fernand Perreault, Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Directors. "Fine projects have been carried out so far with the funds raised, but we must do more. Thanks to the encouragement of those present at the benefit event and all those who will assist the Foundation over the coming months, mainly regarding the Défi Acotango participants, we will be able to continue offering our support to the three current projects and to extend it to other organizations."

The Foundation supports three key programs
Projet de persévérance scolaire aux habitations Marie-Victorin (School perseverance project at Habitations Marie-Victorin), in Rivière-des-Prairies
Promoter: Le Phare

Projet de persévérance scolaire et de développement global des jeunes de la Petite-Bourgogne (School perseverance and overall development of Little Burgundy youth)
Promoter: Ateliers 850: training of young leaders

Projet de persévérance scolaire et de développement global des jeunes d'Ahuntsic par le biais de la lecture, des arts et du multimédia (School perseverance and overall development of Ahuntsic youth through reading, art and multimedia)
Promoter: Meunier-Tolhurst tout en culture

Achieving a goal
A model of perseverance, Patrice Bernier, the Most Valuable Player of the Montreal Impact in 2012 and spokesperson for the Foundation, feels it is important to help young people achieve a goal. "We will continue to find all kinds of ways to motivate social housing youth so that they can see their name in a report card, on a bulletin board or in a newspaper, and make their family and friends proud of them. All the donations made to date are starting to generate concrete results, so please continue helping us. These young people will be so grateful for your support."

Funding activities
It should be noted that among the funding activities underway, the Défi Acotango, involving a volcano on the border of Bolivia and Chile, is a major project requiring participants to persevere and and surpass themselves. An inspiring experience for the youth who will benefit from the funds raised. A team of 11 people, including three adolescents living or involved in social housing communities, are committed to raising $100,000 by meeting the challenge of climbing Acotango.
