Anne McKenzie appointed as President of RPNAO

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 25, 2014 /CNW/ - The Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario (RPNAO) today announced the appointment of Anne McKenzie as the organization's new president. McKenzie, who takes over for outgoing President Brenda Mundy, was sworn in at the association's Annual General Meeting & Conference earlier today.

McKenzie brings more than 42 years of diverse nursing and health care experience to this key leadership role with RPNAO. Prior to her appointment as President, McKenzie had also served as a member of the organization's Board of Directors for the past four years.

"Anne's strong leadership skills and proven dedication to the nursing profession will be tremendous assets, not only to RPNAO, but also to the thousands of RPNs the association represents throughout the province," said Brenda Mundy, whose two-year term as President of RPNAO ended today. "Having had the good fortune of getting to know Anne as a colleague and friend, I can say with the utmost confidence that she will be a strong and engaged leader who will carry forward the excellent work RPNAO is doing for practical nursing and health care in Ontario."

McKenzie assumes leadership of RPNAO at an important time for practical nursing in Ontario. The association recently published what many stakeholders in the health care sector are calling a landmark report on the lack of role clarity regarding the role of RPNs. The report will serve as a roadmap that nurses, nurse employers and nurse educators can use to improve their understanding of the scope and appropriate engagement of the RPN role in Ontario's health care system. This Role Clarity Project is just one of a number of such initiatives McKenzie will support as the association's President.

The announcement of McKenzie's appointment to the role of President was made at RPNAO's 56th Annual General Meeting & Conference in Alliston, Ontario. Brenda Mundy will continue to serve the organization in the role of Past President.
