MONTRÉAL, Sept. 22, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - A festive and euphoric atmosphere reigned as the kayakers in the first edition of the Circuit bleu Charles-Bruneau arrived at their destination after successfully circumventing the Island of Montréal aboard their kayaks in four days. Official spokeswoman Mylène Paquette, actor Caroline Dhavernas, Olympic kayaker Hugues Fournel and close to 60 others took part in this innovative event. During the grand arrival celebration at the Old Port of Montréal, a cheque for $90 000 was presented. The proceeds will go toward financing research and projects in the area of pediatric oncology.
Families, friends and colleagues came together to extend a warm welcome to the kayakers. 8-year-old Félix, the hero of the event, was very anxious to watch the participants arrive. At the arrival ceremony he made sure to thank them: "I had Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of six, but I'm in remission now and doing really well. I'd like to thank all the participants – You say that I am your hero, but I think you are my heros."
To circumvent the Island or Montreal in kayak is certainly a challendge, but according to the participants, it is open to all. The interest of these is such that a second edition is a must. The organizers are pleased with the strong growth potential of this innovative event. The 2014 edition is undoubtedly the first of many
