5,000 Canadians Walk to Honour and Support Families of Workplace Tragedy
LONDON, ON, May 6, 2012 /CNW/ - More than 5,000 Canadians will walk in the annual Steps for Life - Walking for Families of Workplace Tragedy to support families affected by workplace fatalities, life-altering injuries and occupational diseases. More than 30 communities across Canada will participate to raise awareness about the importance of injury prevention and funds for Threads of Life family support programs and services. Last year, the walks raised more than $330,000. Families walk with corporate leaders and workers to raise awareness about the importance of workplace safety.
The walk was supported by federal representatives including: Hon. Rob Merrifield, MP-Yellowhead, AB; Bruce Stanton, MP-Simcoe North, ON; Hon. Chris Bentley, Minister of Energy, MPP-London West, ON; Hon. Jennifer Howard, Minister of Family Services and Labour, MLA-Fort Rouge, MB; Hon. Linda Jeffrey, Minister of Labour, MPP-Brampton-Springdale, ON; Hon. George VanderBurg, Minister for Seniors, MLA-Whitecourt-Ste. Anne, AB; and others along with workers' compensation boards, mayors and community leaders.

This fundraising walk reminds all Canadians why safety in the workplace is of critical importance to everyone."
Threads of Life is a Canadian charity dedicated to supporting families along their journey of healing, after experiencing a workplace tragedy. It provides one-on-one peer support, links to community resources and other support. The charity currently supports more than 1,200 family members.
