PREMIER STELMACH TO ATTEND PEACE OIL SANDS SERVICE AND SUPPLY OPPORTUNITIES
WORKSHOP
Environmentally-Sustainable Resource Development Expected to Accelerate Over the Next Decade
HIGH PRAIRIE, AB, Sept. 1 /CNW/ - The Town of High Prairie, Municipal District of Big Lakes and the Peavine Métis Settlement will be jointly hosting a Service and Supply Opportunities and Development Workshop on Monday, September 13, 2010. The workshop will bring together upstream producers and service and supply firms from across the region to explore a range of regional business development opportunities related to development of the non-conventional oil sector in northwestern Alberta.
Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach is scheduled to attend the workshop's wrap-up session to receive an update on upcoming development activity planned for the Peace Oil Sands region (upstream producers), opportunities available for the region's service and supply sector (all participants), and what the region's communities are doing to better position themselves for these emerging opportunities. The workshop will be followed by a reception and barbecue attended by the Premier, municipal and community leaders, industry representatives and members of the local business community.
"The communities and businesses involved in this initiative are all very excited about developments which will be taking place in the Peace Oil Sands over the next number of years," said Rick Dumont, Mayor of the Town of High Prairie. "As the gateway to Alberta's third largest oil sands resource, the High Prairie area is keen to participate and to further develop its service and supply capabilities - taking advantage of the proximity it has to the province's major energy sector supply hub in the Alberta Capital Region and also to the Seal Lake deposit itself."
Brian Holmberg, High Prairie's Economic Development Officer added: "The recently completed Seal Lake Connector Road - via High Prairie - puts the Seal Lake deposit about an hour-and-a-half closer to Edmonton, a major logistical improvement in accessing and developing the resource. We're well-positioned, open for business, have a highly-motivated service and supply sector and local workforce, and look forward to being a big part of the environmentally-sustainable development of this resource in the years to come."
The workshop is being coordinated and facilitated by Nichols Applied Management, an Edmonton-based management consulting firm specializing in economic and industrial supply chain development.
