On your next visit to Parc Jean-Drapeau - The Expo 67 application, un portrait sonore, is your passport for a virtual tour of Montréal's world's fair

MONTREAL, Oct. 10, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - How can you actively and vividly see Expo 67, the former site of Montréal's world's fair that is now Parc Jean-Drapeau, by exploring the last architectural and artistic vestiges of the iconic exhibition? It's all possible with the free and bilingual mobile application, Expo 67, un portrait sonore, which provides a two-hour walking tour on the same event site that attracted 50 million visitors in 1967.

Produced and directed by Sophie Mankowski, the founding architect and president of Portrait Sonore, in collaboration with an impressive team, the application has 120 minutes of audio content, including a detailed map of the circuit; narrative tracks on the history and architecture of Expo 67; excerpts of interviews by the app creators; sound effects and an original musical score with supporting visual archives.

"Montréal will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Expo 67 in 2017," stated Daniel Blier, Executive Director of the Société du parc Jean-Drapeau. "For every Montrealer and every visitor, but also for the generations of people who weren't able to attend this tremendous event, the Expo 67, un portrait sonore application is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to see just how much of an influence this event had on expanding our horizons and opening up to people all over the world. Parc Jean-Drapeau is deeply proud to be associated with Portrait Sonore and to have this digital device that enhances our cultural heritage."

"The works that are visited on this tour attest to the diversity of post-war architectural expressions, and some of the buildings are major testaments to local and international architectural history," remarked Ms. Mankowski. "But in the many views of experts in the field, we are also able to see the construction and configuration of the islands, the historical importance and political context, as well as the aspirations and tensions that surrounded the event. "

The Expo 67, un portrait sonore app is available in an iPhone and podcast version (MP3 files with printable map). For any information on Parc Jean-Drapeau activities or to get the link to the Expo 67 app, please go to parcjeandrapeau.com.
