Chart-topping band's singles and videos available on iTunes
TORONTO, April 13, 2014 /CNW/ - Tonight during the live finale telecast in Toronto, newly minted boy band Rebel Coast is on their way to mega fame after winning The Next Star: SuperGroup over rival group Electric Ave. The two groups kicked off the finale by performing together and then went on to wow the coaches, live audience and viewers at home by each performing cover songs as well as their original singles, including "We Are The Brave" by Rebel Coast and "Into Pieces" by Electric Ave. Upon being announced the winner on stage by series host Jordan Francis, Rebel Coast performed its brand new, never-before-heard single "Don't Stop Now" to close the show. Footage from the live performance will be featured in the video for the single, available later this week on Supergroup.ytv.com. In the days leading up to the finale, Rebel Coast's original uplifting, beat-driven pop single "We Are the Brave" reached #1 on the iTunes music video charts. Following the series, Rebel Coast will perform live during The Next Star auditions in Montreal on April 29 and in Toronto on May 17 and 18.
The members of Rebel Coast include: Angelo Moretti, 16, from Toronto, Ontario; Curtis Smith, 17, from Toronto, Ontario; Kyle McVea, 17, from Quispamsis, NB; and Amer Dhaliwal, 17, from Brampton, Ontario and Ryan Hawken, 16, from Toronto, Ontario, who were both Top 6 finalists in The Next Star Season 5.
The finale capped off the six-part elimination series that followed the journey of several boy and girl groups over an intense multi-week training process, led by top-tier music industry experts, as they competed to become the next super group sensation.
The win marks the beginning of an exciting career for Rebel Coast. As well as recording two original singles, currently available on iTunes, the group will receive an exclusive management deal with 21 Entertainment, which manages the careers of musical artists such as Fefe Dobson, JoJo and Kreesha Turner.
Special guests during the finale included pop singing sensation Austin Mahone who performed his new singles, "MMM Yeah" and "Til' I Find U" and Nick Cannon, who made a special video appearance to give a shout out to new boy band, 4Count, appearing during the show also. Other notable guests included The Next Star Season 7 host Carlos Bustamante and new Next Star judge, Dan Kanter, who will be joining the cast for Season 7.

About The Next Star: SuperGroup
A spin-off of YTV's The Next Star, the six-episode series, produced by Tricon Films & Television, took viewers through an intense, top-level talent showdown in order to crown a new mega boy or girl group, the likes of One Direction or Fifth Harmony. Hosted by Jordan Francis (Camp Rock, Connor Undercover, CBC's Cross Country Fun Hunt), The Next Star: SuperGroup featured the expertise of performance coaches including actress and recording artist Cory Lee (Degrassi: The Next Generation, Instant Star) and multi-platinum music producer and songwriter Damon Sharpe (The X Factor, Big Time Rush). They were joined by a panel of industry experts, comprised of choreographer Nico Archambault (So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Nureyev), vocal coach Sarah Morrison (Canadian Idol, Canada's Got Talent), make-up artist Vanessa Jarman (Canada's Next Top Model, How to Look Good Naked Canada) and stylist Corey Ng (MuchMusic, MTV). After assembling the young artists into groups of five, the coaches and experts guided and mentored each act as they faced an array of challenges designed to help them fine-tune their sound, style and chemistry.
