New tourism team to cycle around Old Montréal this summer

MONTREAL, June 19, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - This morning at Place Jacques-Cartier, TOURISME MONTRÉAL and the Société de développement commercial du Vieux-Montréal (the Old Montréal Business Development Corporation), in partnership with the Ville-Marie Borough, proceeded to launch a new concept that was put forward within the framework of a pilot project: the Mobile Tourism Services Team. The project was established to provide personalized visitor services for tourists and Montrealers alike, with a view to promoting the city and its various summertime attractions and events. The tourism team will move about Montréal's historical district aboard two tailor-made mobile stations. The initiative will continue until the end of October to cover both the summer tourism season and the massive influx of cruise passenger at the Port of Montréal this fall.

Consisting of information officers mastering close to a dozen languages in total, the tourism team will help visitors enhance their destination experience. The information officers will be equipped with the latest technology and will be able to provide visitors with Wi-Fi access so that they can download for free the Old Montréal Guide application, as well as any other relevant information concerning their stay in the city. Maps and printed guides will also be available on the mobile stations. These new bikes will therefore offer a friendly and high-quality tourism service, meeting the needs of travelers in the area.

"Traveler behaviour is constantly evolving. To ensure that we meet the needs of visitors, we wanted to exceed their expectations and modernize our approach. This project allows us to develop a close relationship with tourists and to move beyond the context of the more traditional tourist visitor centre," said Yves Lalumière, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal.

"This is a project to accommodate tourists. We approach them. We welcome them to the place we call home. We want to create traffic in Old Montréal, and, with an entirely human approach, be an easily accessible information source for everyone," added Mario Lafrance, General Director of the Société de développement commercial du Vieux-Montréal.

Suppliers and partners of this initiative, the Québec company Au Coin du Pédaleur, designed the custom model of the new tourism bicycle. Meanwhile, Canfone Inc., located in Old Montréal, provides the management of the mobile Wi-Fi system.
