MONTRÉAL, Oct. 2, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The Mayor of Montreal and President of Metropolis, the Honourable Denis Coderre today issued the following statement on Rosh Hashanah:
"Montrealers join Jewish communities in cities around the world to celebrate the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah. Rosh Hashanah ushers in a period of reflection for the year just passed, and a new beginning as we enter the New Year filled with hope and renewal.
I am particularly proud that Montreal has become a world capital of the Living Together - a city of diversity and inclusion. I have been privileged to work closely with Montreal's precious Jewish community on this initiative, on a leading role for our city in combating anti-semitism and all forms of racism, together with partners in Paris, Berlin and around the world. I was deeply moved to have marked Yom HaShoah this year at City Hall with hundreds of Montrealers, survivors and especially with youth who will carry the message of remembrance, and the imperative of action, for the future.
Looking ahead, in a few short weeks I will be joined by my colleague Toronto Mayor John Tory and our respective delegations of community and business leaders on an important trade mission to Israel and the West Bank - which will coincide with two major gatherings: the 30th annual international mayors conference and the HLS & Cyber Conference.
From my family to yours, Shana Tova Umetukah - a sweet, healthy and happy new year filled with hope and peace".
