OTTAWA, Feb. 15, 2012 /CNW/ - Tickets for Van Gogh: Up Close, the next National Gallery of Canada (NGC) summer exhibition, are on sale starting today.

On view from May 25, 2012 through 3 September, this first major Canadian exhibition of work by the renowned Dutch artist in more than 25 years takes a fresh look at Vincent van Gogh's genius by exploring the artist's representation of nature, particularly his novel use of the close-up view. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Gallery's box office, by phone at 613-998-8888 and toll free at 1-888-541-8888, or at, the NGC's online shop.

Given the expected popularity, significance and scale of this exhibition organized by the National Gallery of Canada and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the NGC strongly recommends purchasing tickets in advance. NGC national collection galleries close at 5 pm, Thursdays at 8 pm.

About the exhibition
Van Gogh: Up Close brings together more than 40 of Van Gogh's paintings from private and public collections around the world, as well as a selection of Japanese woodblock prints, nineteenth-century photographs, and works on paper from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries. Organized by the National Gallery of Canada and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the exhibition is supported by Sun Life Financial, presenting sponsor, and the sponsor Shell Canada. The project is under the patronage of Her Majesty The Queen of the Netherlands and His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada.
